Lupe and Jericho fell in love on the trip, beginning with Lupe teaching him how to dance. Lupe is the drummer in an all black girl's choir that Jericho encountered while on the run him with Ling. Their romantic relationship fluctuates as Evie enters a false engagement with Sam Lloyd, and eventually ends after he attacks her at Jake Marlow's mansion while he is heavily dosed with the serum keeping him alive. Jerico and Evie both take an interest in each other when Evie first arrives in New York. He is referred to as a 'gentle giant,' because despite his muscular appearance, he is a bookworm and rather shy.

Jericho remains fairly closed off at the beginning of the series but as the series progresses more and more is revealed about him.

When Evie first meets him, she thinks he looks like a "severe angel from a Renaissance painting, come to life." He is also said to be very muscular with ash blond hair. Jericho is very tall and in the first book is said to stand at around 6'2" which is approximately 187cm tall though in the fourth book he is said to be 6'4" (around 193cm) instead. Some side effects of this are being 'superhuman' and being extremely strong, so he always tries to keep his emotions in check in order to prevent harming the people around him.ĭuring his time in the medical facility he also helps his veteran friend move on to a better place. Because of this, he depends on a drug and alcohol complex machine beneath his skin to keep him alive. During those experiments, every patient went mad and died, with the exception of Jericho.

He offered a option of an experimental drug to patients who were expected to never recover. One day famous American inventor Jake Marlowe came to try to help all the patients at the facility. Eventually, his parents stopped coming, and he was left solely in the care of the doctors. His parents visited him for the first year. He would lay there all day and night for he could not get up and stare at the window and wait for his parents arrival. As a result, he could not breath by himself and was constricted to the iron lung. As a child, Jericho became sick with infantile paralysis.
